We left Otahuhu at 9 O’clock on Wednesday 25th July heading for Haruru Falls Resort at Paihia, where we stayed for 2 nights. First stop was Sheep World at Warworth. This was entertaining and informative explaining about two of the dogs that work there and were shown how they herd the sheep and bring them down off the hills. We then saw a sheep being shorn and heard how they grade the wool, also safety rules on handling shears and foot wear. The students got to feed baby lambs, a fun time had by all. Next stop was Kauri Fire Station. We had a ride on a Fire Engine, it was quite a bumpy ride, had lunch at the Fire Station and we were all given a gift of a bracelet that glows in the dark and a Frisbee . We arrived at Paihia at 5.30. We had an early night as had to be up for breakfast at 7.15 for the trip up to Ninety Mile Beach. Started our journey at 8 O’clock, beautiful scenery and the weather was great. Drove from one end of the beach to the other, saw some wild horses and a baby penguin. We the drove up to the sand dunes and had a great time boogie boarding down the dunes. Had lunch at Mangonui then back to Paihia for the Disco that night. Santa arrived at the Disco and gave out great gifts to all students. Disco was enjoyed by all. We left Pahia at 8 O’clock next morning for Opua wharf for a ferry ride over to Russell. It was very foggy and we hoped the Captain knew where he was going. The weather cleared for our return journey and once again we saw great scenery and the weather was fine. On the road again heading for home. Stopped off at Whangerai at a petting animal farm and had lunch there. It was a lovely place and the animals were very well fed by us. On the bus again heading for home all very tired but happy. |

Ashlin Kumar, Lauren Fairbrother, Nicole Whale and teacher Heather Warner had a fantastic camp throughout Northland the week of 25th July till Friday 27th. Along with students from the other Auckland special schools they were treated as part of the Lions sponsorship programme that has been an annual event running for the past 30 years. |
